Norman Rockwell's Favorite Oatmeal Cookies

I grew up with my mother saying every fourth Thursday of November, "Well, it was another Norman Rockwell Thanksgiving."

"Runaway" reminds me of the time that my sister found me in the hallways at school and asked me if I could pack her more clothes since she had escaped to her friend's house two days prior (and as soon as my mom saw me packing a bag and I told her about the ask, she stopped me dead hard in my tracks!).

My dad had a copy of "Doctor and the Doll" hanging in his office. It seemed only fitting for a doctor that was also the father of three little girls.

"Before the Shot" hits close to home when I have to take my boys to the pediatrician every year.

And of course my husband's favorite is "Sunday Morning," what feels to me like an accurate portrayal of more days than just Sunday...

Norman Rockwell was a man of good stature, style, and taste. His art went beyond just an image on a canvas, it told a story and touched close to home for many of us. His paintings are timeless, as appears to be his favorite cookie recipe. Courtesy of The Red Lion Inn, here it is:

Oatmeal Cookies

1 stick butter

1 cup light brown sugar

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla

1/4 cup water and 2 eggs well beaten

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup flour, sifted

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

About 1 cup oatmeal

Chopped Nuts (walnuts preferred)

Mix in order and drop on baking sheet. Bake 400 degrees 7 to 8 minutes. Then run under boiler to brown.
